Why Vento exists
Most screen recorders make you start over when you fumble a line. With Vento, you pause, drag back to just before the mistake, and record over it, so a small slip never costs you the whole take.
What you can do with it
- Record your screen, microphone, computer audio and webcam
- Pause, rewind and record over mistakes while you are still recording
- Share every recording as a link, or embed it
- Add transcripts, chapter headings and author annotations, and password-protect a recording
- Record in Chrome or Edge on Chromebook, Mac and Windows, with an optional Chrome extension

Where it came from
Vento launched publicly on January 16, 2023, with a Show HN post on Hacker News: “Vento, a screen recorder that lets you rewind and record over mistakes.” As of September 2026, its Chrome extension has more than 10,000 users and a 4.7 out of 5 rating on the Chrome Web Store.
