Free Loom Alternative: Vento vs Loom Compared
Vento is a free Loom alternative built around fixing mistakes without starting over. Pause, drag back to just before the slip, and record over it — on the free plan, right in your browser.
Loom has a similar feature, Live Rewind, but it's only available on paid Loom plans and only in its Chrome extension. Loom is the better pick if you need desktop or mobile apps, AI editing, comments, or recordings longer than an hour.

When Vento is the better choice
- You redo takes a lot. Tutorials, lessons, product demos and scripted walkthroughs are where a single fumble used to mean starting over. Rewinding is the core of Vento, not an add-on.
- You want to rewind without paying. Vento's rewind works on the free plan. Loom's Live Rewind needs a Business plan or above.
- You'd rather not install anything. Vento records in the browser. Its Chrome extension is optional; Loom's Live Rewind requires Loom's extension.
- Price per seat matters. Vento Premium is $8 a month; Loom Business is $18 per user a month.
When Loom is the better choice
Be honest with yourself about what you need — Loom does more in several areas:
- You record long videos. Vento Premium caps recordings at 60 minutes; Loom Business has unlimited recording time.
- You want AI to help. Loom generates titles, summaries and chapters, and offers AI editing on its Business + AI plan. Vento has no AI features.
- Your viewers reply on the video. Loom has comments and emoji reactions, even on its free plan. Vento doesn't.
- You need apps. Loom has desktop apps for Windows and Mac and mobile apps. Vento runs in Chrome, Edge and Brave only — not Safari or Firefox.
- You record a lot on the free plan. Loom Starter allows 25 videos; Vento Free allows 10.
- You need 4K, or Atlassian tools. Loom Business records up to 4K and ties into Jira and Confluence.
How rewinding works in each
In Vento: pause, drag the red cursor below the video back to just before the mistake, and select Replace from to record over everything after that point. Jump to last rewind lets you retry the same moment quickly. This works on every plan.
In Loom: Live Rewind lets you trim back from the end of the recording and resume. In Loom's words, it "allows you to trim exclusively from the end of your recording," and it "is currently only accessible through the Chrome extension and only available on Business, Business + AI and Enterprise plans."
Both approaches replace what comes after the point you rewind to. The practical difference is access: Vento includes it on the free plan in the browser; Loom requires a paid plan and its extension.
Pricing compared
- Vento: Free, or Premium at $8 a month ($72 billed yearly). Premium adds recordings up to 60 minutes, 1080p, unlimited recordings and downloads, and password protection.
- Loom: Starter is free. Business is $18 per user a month and Business + AI is $24 per user a month, with discounts for paying annually. Enterprise pricing is by quote.
Loom's prices above are its monthly list prices as published on loom.com.
Switching from Loom
There is no automatic import, so plan on moving the videos that matter:
- Download your Loom videos. Loom's free Starter plan can't download videos, so this needs a paid Loom plan.
- Upload them to Vento. Uploading existing videos is a Vento Premium feature.
- Record new videos in Vento and share them as links, exactly as you would with Loom.
